Nursery Rhymes

I was reading "Mother Goose" nursery rhymes to Emma and I ran across a couple that seemed... "off".

"Lady-bird, Lady-bird,
Fly away home,
Your house is on fire,
Your children will burn."

Hmmm, sounds like a bedtime story to me!

Here's another favorite of impressionable children everywhere:

"Snail, Snail,
Come out of your hole,
Or else I'll beat you black as a coal,
Snail, Snail,
Put out your head,
Or else I'll beat you till you're dead."

Yep! Those are rhymes I hope Emma memorizes right away and NEVER forgets!

  1. Those are odd... they'll make good additions to a baby shower in the future in the game where you pick one random line from a rhyme and see if people can figure it out. Mother Goose might not have been so nurturing after all...
